MERIDIAN RAYLEIGH INSTRUCTORS
SIFU RICHARD SUGDEN
Regional Instructor, Director of MKF Rayleigh / Dynamic Martial Arts Centre.
I began studying Wing Chun Kung Fu in 1996 when a friend asked if I would like to join him at a class. Under the guidance of Sifu Sata Chand, I soon became absorbed in the art and wanted to increase my knowledge and understanding of all aspects of the practice.
I am a full time professional instructor, I launched Meridian Kung Fu Rayleigh, also known as Dynamic Martial Arts Centre in 2003. The full-time centre opened in the heart of Rayleigh in 2004. I started with one class with five students and now have over two hundred and fifty, ranging from five up to sixty plus. There is a great community spirit at MKF Rayleigh, with many families attending classes.
Under the tuition of Sifu Sata Chand, I have achieved my 5th degree and find it very rewarding to pass my knowledge onto my students. I have many students that started as children and are now adults, still practicing the art. Some have even become coaches and Instructors with their own clubs. It is very rewarding to see how students develop and grow confidence, focus and self-awareness in their art under my guidance.
Wing Chun has enabled me to take a different career path which means that I get to spend valuable time with my family. I enjoy reading, and developing my knowledge on all related and surrounding areas of the art, which enables me to deepen my passion.
SIFU BEN RICHARDSON
My name is Sifu Ben Richardson and I run the Billericay area of Meridian Kung fu whilst also running classes at both the Rayleigh and Southend branches as well. I have been studying and training within the art of Wing Chun Kung Fu for 23 years and I currently have a Second-Degree black sash.
Alongside my normal training I also participate in a once-a-month Mastery course where I learn to train with the weapons of the system. I have been teaching the Martial Art for 13 years working alongside some fantastic instructors during this time.
My passion for teaching started when I was 16 when I was asked to work within the P.E department within my secondary school at the time. This then led me down a path where I studied at South Essex College for 4 years gaining the top grade possible, from here I went to the University of Essex where I gained a 2:2 in Sport Studies.
Finally, I undertook an intense one-year teacher training course allowing me to teach at a College Level where I worked for 2 years before making the decision to leave and teach Martial Arts full time.
SIFU TOM DONNELLAN
I began my training in Wing Chun Kung Fu in 2005, starting as a teenager. I have trained with Sifu Richard Sugden at Meridian Rayleigh for my whole Wing Chun career, and am extremely proud to run my own branch in Chelmsford, passing on my knowledge and experience of this martial art to both children and adults.
Learning Wing Chun has been an amazing experience that has really improved many areas of my life. Under the expert tuition of Meridian Kung Fu, my art has developed significantly, as well as also developing confidence, mental wellbeing, resilience and focus.
The highlights of my martial arts journey include achieving my black sash in 2016, as well as completing my Instructor’s Course with Meridian HQ. Seeing the progress and achievements of those students I have taught is extremely pleasing and I continue to be dedicated to sharing and teaching the fantastic martial art of Wing Chun.
